• Barack Obama made his first political debute. He was elected Illinois State Senate.

2000

• Obama made an unsuccessful Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives

2003

• Obama was named Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

2004

• Obama ran for U.S. Senate

November 2, 2004

• In the General election, Obama recieved 70% of the populare vote to Alan Keyes's 27%

January 2005

• Obama was sworn in as a Senator.
